It is a small rural village located at 8 km from Largentière (a medieval village) and 6 km from Laurac (where you can find local shops). Sanilhac is composed of different hamlets among a chesnut grove.
You can find typical authenticity and aesthetic of the Southern Ardèche next to Largentière and Joyeuse in Sanilhac, a charming small village as we like them in Ardeche. Peaceful landscapes where lands of the Cêvennes and the Vivarais can be seen with olive-trees, chestnuts and pine-trees next to vineyards and some kiwi fruit orchards and to nice rivers, the Beaume and the Roubreau, ornament the overall scenery.
In the Middle Ages, Sanilhac was one of the defensive links of the mining area of Largentière, that is why the Tour de Brison which dominates the Ranc hamlet was erected.

The area consists of a rich and varied architectural heritage. Between sandstone and linestone, the work of the man can be seen everywhere, from prehistory to nowadays. Numerous dolmens, "capitelles", magnificient terraces with dry-stone walls, Romanesques churches, beautiful perched villages, a lot of them are listed among the villages of character or the most beautiful villages in France.
